Water just sits there and won't go down. That's a full blockage in that specific drain line, and a snake will reach it and break it loose. This is the most straightforward fix we do.
If a plunger didn't clear it, the blockage is sitting further down in the drain line where a plunger can't reach. A toilet auger is built to go past the trap and get to clogs that a plunger can't touch.
A partially blocked pipe lets some water through but not enough to drain at normal speed. Something is sitting in the line, usually hair, soap, or grease, and it's narrowing the opening. A snake will pull it out or push it through.
A single drain that gurgles while it empties usually has a partial clog trapping air in the line. The gurgling is air bubbling back through the water in the trap. A snake clears the blockage and the noise stops.
